・Summary
The Paris- and Brussels-based choreographer and performer Kidows Kim shared his plans for a new work, HIGH GEAR, and the related research he undertook in Japan during his residency. In the talk, Kim was joined by Kazuki Fujita, a choreographer and dancer who accompanied him during his field research as another resident artist.

Kidows Kim
Born in South Korea and currently based in Paris and Brussels, Kidows Kim studied graphic design and mime before attending the Centre national de danse contemporaine in Angers, France, and completing research on the Master Exerce program under Christian Rizzo at the Centre chorégraphique national Montpellier Occitanie. His Dictionary of Fantastical Creatures project has resulted in a first chapter, Funkenstein, in 2021, followed by Cutting Mushrooms in 2023. The creative development of the latter was conducted at Kinosaki International Arts Center in 2022.

Concurrent Resident: Kazuki Fujita
After studying theater in Japan, Kazuki Fujita moved to France in 2015. He attended the Conservatoire à rayonnement régional de Paris and the Centre national de danse contemporaine in Angers, before completing a master’s degree at Université Paris 8 and then conducted research on the Master Exerce program at the Centre chorégraphique national Montpellier Occitanie. Based on his interest in the process of translating words into gestures and gestures into words, he explores a choreographic practice in which misunderstandings are the source for creation and transformation. In addition to his solo work, Fujita is a dancer and performer for the likes of Kidows Kim, Fuyuhiko Takata, Mio Hanaoka, Ana Rita Teodoro, and River Lin. During his residency, he accompanied Kidows Kim’s field research.
