Turn off the house lights

Residency Period: August 3–September 14, 2022
Residency Venue: Morishita Studio (3-5-6 Morishita, Taito-ku, Tokyo),
Alex Viteri and Catalina Fernández tracked the research undertaken to date by Shuntaro Yoshida and Maharu Maeno, creating the new performance We like to watch clumsy-seeming Mountains, which fused the ecosystems and landscapes of Tokyo from Turn off the house lights (previously presented in Berlin) and was shown at Echigo-Tsumari Art Field 2023.

Summary: This talk introduced the methodologies and approaches to the nonhuman undertaken by Mapped to the Closest Address, which is known for developing projects that challenge anthropocentric perspectives and raise questions about human attitudes toward natural environments, along with re-inquiring into society’s shift toward modernization and colonialism through choreographic practices. The Berlin-based Cory Tamler, author of numerous writings about experimental dance and performance, joined the event remotely and furthered the discussion.
