Research Theme Multimedia Theater in Japan
Brief Description of the Research Wang Chong researched the Japanese theater works that incorporate multimedia techniques from perspective of live videos, interactive media and robots. During his residency he watched contemporary theater and contemporary dance and Japanese traditional performing arts woks, and he exchanged ideas with Japanese artists with regards to the multimedia techniques.

Wang Chong gave a presentation on his recent works “The New Wave Theater” with his question, “Is theater dying in the 21st century?

Wang Chong
Born in China

Wang Chong studied economics and laws at Beijing University and studied theater for his master’s degree at the University of Hawaii. In 2008, he established Theatre du Reve Experimental and creates documentary theatre and multimedia theatre works.

In Japan, he joined Asia Theater Directors’ Festival in Toga in 2012 and he presented “The Warfare of Landmine 2.0”, winning 2013 Festival/Tokyo Award, and “Ghosts 2.0” Festival / Tokyo in 2014.
